english.people.com.cn – The Oxford University Press has formed a partnership with Cambodia-based United Knowledge Company for an exclusive distribution of English teaching and learning materials in Cambodia, official new agency AKP reported on Monday.

The partnership agreement was officially signed on March 11 between the executive director of the United Knowledge Company Meng Heang and the Oxford University Press representative Peter Marshall, AKP said.

Founded in 1586, the Oxford University Press is a leading academic printing body based in the United Kingdom.

“It is not only because of United Knowledge’s incomparable resource and experience, but its strong commitment to serve potential human resource in Cambodia, which is similar to that of Oxford University Press,” Peter Marshall was quoted as saying.

Having trained approximately 5,000 English teachers in Cambodia, the United Knowledge vowed to provide better service and reasonable price for its English teaching and learning materials in the country’s market.

The United Knowledge’s executive director also made known his plan to enhance the cooperation with the Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports.

Gold and copper miner Oz Minerals Ltd (ASX:OZL) says it has found an inferred resource of 605,000 ounces at its Cambodian gold project.

The discovery has encouraged the company to continue exploration in the region, which is its only advanced exploration project outside of its core operation at South Australia’s Prominent Hill copper and gold mine.

Oz Minerals was forced to sell-off nearly all of its key assets last year to dig itself out of debt, leaving it with Prominent Hill as its only producing mine and about $1.08 billion in cash.

But the company has bounced back with its Cambodian project.

The initial inferred resource at the mine is for 8.1 million tonnes at 2.3 grams per tonne for 605,000 ounces of gold.

The company says it considers the discovery as a foundation asset from which to build its resource base.

It believes the next phase of exploration in Cambodia will be a clear indicator of the potential for over two million ounces of gold in the region.

Oz Minerals posted a loss of $517.3 million for the 2009 calendar year.

Japan Help Cambodia To Improve Public Health

I heard a lot of complains on the public health system in Cambodia, about doctors that want only the make money from their business and don’t care about the patients.

People need to pay money under table to the doctors when they stayed for operation, maternity or receiving any treatment. Money comes first before the treatment.

I think this is a big issue if we don’t take any action now. I am happy to see Japan provided Japan Provides US$180,000 to Local Authorities for helping Cambodia to improve public health system.

WOW ! 4.3 million mobile subscribers

By early 2009, there were nine mobile operators vigorously competing with each other in a market segment that was growing at an annual rate of more than 50%. There were 4.3 million mobile subscribers (penetration 29%) in the country by March 2009. The market was still in a very strong growth phase, as evidenced by the keenness shown by foreign operators seeking to be part of it.

Some limited fixed-line growth had earlier come about through investment under foreign assistance, but this has mainly benefited Phnom Penh and geographical coverage has not increased significantly since that effort in the 1990s.

The number of fixed-line services was relatively static at around 40,000 by 2008. In the absence of any real fixed-line growth, mobile telephone services continue to completely dominate the overall telecom market in Cambodia, with mobiles representing more than 99% of the total number of telephone services in the country. This disparity has been growing more significant each year.
